In Search of (New) Beer: Duvel/Ommegang Rustica

Not to brag, but I drink a lot of beer. And I don’t mean that in a “Bro I got SO WASTED last night!” kind of way, but I say it in the spirit of variety. I treat my beer like I treat my food, my travels, and many other facets of life: every time I go out, I want to try something new. It is in this spirit that I’ll be looking forward to heading to Stateside tomorrow night for the launch of Duvel Rustica, a new collaborative beer from New York’s Brewery Ommegang and Belgium’s own Duvel.
The event, which is pay-as-you-go, will begin at 6:00p.m. and feature the beer both on draft and in 750ml cork-finished bottles. While you’re there, if you’d like to learn more about the Belgian-style golden ale, Ommegang brewmaster Phil Leinhart will be on hand to field any questions. But, if you only need the basics, Rustica is an 8.5% ABV beer brewed with pils malts and Styrian Golding hops from Slovenia and is described as a mixture of Duvel’s Belgian Golden Ale and Ommegang’s proprietary yeast, which will give the beer the signature rustic fruitiness from Ommegang.
But don’t think this is just about the beer—you’ll also be in one of Philly’s hottest restaurants with Philadelphia Magazine’s “Best Chef 2012” and winner of Brewery Ommegang’s Hop Chef competition, George Sabatino. Sabatino will be on hand to offer dish suggestions for guests to order and make the most of a beer and food pairing—and after we witnessed first-hand his ability to pair the two at the local Hop Chef competition, we can certainly say this is some help you should truly take advantage of.
This is a can’t-miss opportunity: a new beer from two excellent breweries and food from one of our personal favorite chefs in the city. If you’re looking for something to do on Wednesday night, this is the perfect use of your time, and we hope to see you there.
