Oktoberfest: Where Else But Brauhaus?

10 August 2012

If you’ve ever wanted to experience Oktoberfest without the hassle of flying to Germany and trying to book an affordable hotel room in Munich, your opportunity will hit Philadelphia next month with Brauhaus Schmitz’s 4th annual celebration of the holiday.  The festivities will kick off on Monday, September 24, and culminate in a massive block party on Saturday, September 29, from noon until 8pm.

This year, the event will shut down the 700 block of South Street, where there will be a pig roast, a live band, and plenty of your favorite German fare—especially the beer.  And this year, in addition to the regular lineup of German favorites, Haufbrauhaus Traunstein will be brewing up a special Festbier for the restaurant for the very first time.

This is also the first year Brauhaus is offering an Oktoberfest VIP package, which will allow 100 VIP ticketholders to enter the new Brauer Bund room at the back of Brauhaus Schmitz and enjoy a true VIP experience.  In the Brauer Bund, guests will be provided with complimentary appetizers from Brauhaus chef Jeremy Nolan, as well as six drink tickets that can be used inside or out of the VIP area.  In addition to the exclusive German beer hall space, the VIP area will have additional beers to offer, served by a full wait and bar staff.  VIPs can also expect to receive a commemorative beer stein, t-shirt, and other Brauhaus swag.   We also heard that VIPs will have access to five additional private bathrooms, which means your breaks between those special beers will be even shorter. Prost!

VIP tickets are $100 and are going quickly, as only 100 were made available.  Tickets can be purchased by calling the restaurant at 267.909.8814.  The block party itself will be free to attend with pay-as-you-go food and beer, with street and lot parking available close by.   If you are longing for a day filled with German beer, ladies in dirndls, and meat served in tube form, be sure to mark your calendar for September 29, 2012!
